Thermo Scientific Pierce Western Blotting Filter Papers are pre-cut cotton sheets for wet or semi-dry, passive or electrophoretic transfer of proteins from polyacrylamide gels (SDS-PAGE) to PVDF, nitrocellulose, or other membranes.
Sheets of blotting paper are necessary components of transfer sandwiches and cassettes that typically must be assembled for various kinds of protein or nucleic acid, gel-to-membrane, transfer protocols. Pierce Western Blotting Filter Papers are composed of high-quality alpha cotton cellulose fiber for use in Northern, Southern, and Western blotting applications. These blotting papers help to ensure quick and efficient transferring molecules from a gel to membrane of choice. These filter papers are manufactured with ultrapure water without additives to minimize possible sources of background signal.
Pierce filter papers are suitable for use with alcohol or other organic solvents commonly used in protein and nucleic acid blotting applications. Two thicknesses and several pre-cut sizes provide for optimal wicking, drying and blotting properties. The advantage of using extra-thick filter paper is that only one sheet is needed per side of a typical transfer-sandwich and transfer-casette instead of the usual two or three sheets per side. The extra-thick filter paper is recommended for use with the Pierce Fast Semi-Dry Blotter (Part No. 88217).
